GM statement regarding mandatory head and neck restraints
GENERAL MOTORS STATEMENT: On behalf of General Motors, I would like to applaud NASCAR for its decision to mandate head and neck restraints in its three national touring series. Having tested head and neck restraints such as the HANS and the Hutchens devices, GM remains committed to the belief that these devices represent the best immediate solution for reducing the risk of head and neck injuries in high speed racing accidents. We believe the greatest opportunity to help protect drivers in the near future is to continuously improve the driver?s compartment. GM will continue to test and evaluate the use of more rigid seating with head and shoulder support, six-point harnesses and full-face helmets. We remain committed to working with NASCAR and other organizations on further improving racing safety. Herb Fishel, Executive Director of GM Racing
