FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JIM RUSSELL TO OPERATE SEARS POINT KARTING CENTER SONOMA, CALIF. (November 20, 2001) —Beginning in 2002 Sears Point Raceway will feature a state-of-the-art karting facility operated by the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. Built as part of a $50 million Modernization Plan at Sears Point, the Karting Center is expected to be operational in March, 2002. The facility which has been designed to international standards, will be able to host international karting championships on it’s three-quarters of a mile track, and will feature up to five different configurations. Jim Russell will offer a wide variety of racing programs that will create a ladder system, beginning with Kadet Programs and moving through Sprint kart classes, to Shifter classes, to an arrive-and-drive kart racing series that feeds into the USAC Formula Russell Championship Series in full sized racecars. Ultimately, the ladder leads to an opportunity with a team in the prestigious U.S. F2000 National Championship. Since 2000, the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School and the U.S. F2000 National Championship have formed a strategic partnership to assist drivers in moving up the motorsports ladder. The Jim Russell Racing Drivers School has been teaching the art of auto racing since 1957, with past graduates including Jacques Villeneuve, Jimmy Vasser and Emerson Fittipaldi, while the U.S. F2000 National Championship is considered North America’s premier open-wheel training series and has had graduates including the late Greg Moore, Sam Hornish Jr. and Memo Gidley.
