Suspension Innovation - RollGard Suspension Stabilizer
The patented RollGard Suspension Stabilizer, designed to improve ride and handling and the risk of rollover accidents of SUVs, light-duty trucks and vans, has been introduced by AmTech Corp., Las Vegas, NV. RollGard consists of a pair of leaf springs that attach to the vehicle's existing leaf spring system and produce counterforce to improve vehicle stability when cornering as well as when traveling over rough roads and in high winds. "Because RollGard forces the wheels to the ground, the "tippy" feeling-- what engineers refer to as sway, pitch and roll--is greatly reduced, as is the possibility of a rollover accident caused from a sudden lane change or cornering at too high a speed. Traction is also improved when carrying cargo or towing," said Thomas Neavitt, president. RollGard can be installed easily with a few common tools in under 30 minutes on any vehicle with rear leaf springs. It attaches to both ends of the leaf springs, using the rear axle as a pivot to maintain consistent ride height. Numerous government agencies and companies have equipped their vehicles with RollGard including the U.S. Border Patrol, Southwestern Bell, Clark County (NV) Transporation, Texas Parks & Recreation and Southwest Gas. The innovative product was developed by Peter Bryant, a veteran automotive engineer with a renowned career in Formula 1, Can-Am and Indy -Car rading and the designer of the concept Shelby Series 1 vehicle currently in production at Shelby American. A suspension and aerodynamics expert, he recently presented RollGard's unique counter-spring technology in a paper to the Society of Automotive Engineers, of which he has been a member since 1973.
