Heinz Paschen becomes General Manager
of  BMW¹s F1 engine development

Munich. Heinz Paschen, leading designer of the successful BMW Formula One
engines, becomes the new General Manager of  BMW¹s F1 engine development in
Munich from the end of the 2002 season onwards.

49-year-old Paschen entered the BMW F1 project on the 1st of January in the
year 2000 as manager of design and calculation. Before this the Swabian
(area of Germany) has been working for Toyota as the designer of the engine
with which Juan Pablo Montoya, one of the current drivers of the BMW
WilliamsF1 Team, raced to victories in the US CART series during the 2000
season.

Heinz Paschen, who rode motorcycle races for a couple of years by himself,
will become the successor of Dr Werner Laurenz. The employment of Dr
Laurenz, the former head of the BMW F1 engine development, ends.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen explains: "Werner Laurenz did a great
job in helping to establish the BMW F1 department and now he looks for new
challenges. Heinz Paschen has been exclusively involved in design and
calculation of the V10 engine and is now happy to take over the
responsibility of the entire engine development. The fact that we are able
to replace Heinz Paschen¹s position through internal  promotion of personnel
underlines the strength and stability that the team has reached."
