Gas Prices Drop for Christmas - New Year's Holiday: AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report
HOUSTON--Dec. 10, 2002--Texans planning on hitting the road this holiday season will see some relief at the pump, according to AAA Texas. The statewide average price for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded is $1.28 -- a decrease of a dime since Thanksgiving when the average was $1.38. "The price drop comes just in time for people making travel plans for the Christmas - New Year's holiday," says Rose Rougeau, a spokesperson for AAA Texas.
AAA's pre-holiday Fuel Gauge Report shows prices have also dropped nationally from $1.46 to the current $1.38 since Thanksgiving. Favorable news from the United States that Iraq's weapons declaration to the United Nations should not be pre-judged may have aided in the decline in fuel prices. Plus, recent unrest in Venezuela may be subsiding after the nation's president announced he would consider holding early elections. Venezuela is a major oil and gas exporter to the U.S. Nationally, gas prices are up more than 25 cents from a year ago.
