the Department of Public Safety, and the Houston Police
Department.
WHAT: The launch of AAA Texas' Senior Driver Initiative to keep
aging baby boomers and other drivers safe on the road.
New vehicles with "senior safety features" will be on
display. Seniors will discuss how to drive safely. Road

senior driver issues.
WHEN: Thursday, July 31, 2003
at 9:30 AM
WHERE: Rice University
6100 Rice Blvd. -- Parking Lot 12 -- Residential Area
WHY: Senior citizens are a growing segment of our population.
Currently, there are more than 2.7 million Texans age 60 or
older. By 2040, the senior population is projected to grow
by more than 8 million. Senior citizens are some of the
safest drivers on the road. After the age of 80, because of
physical frailty, crashes are more likely to cause injury
and death. AAA Texas is committed to both keeping seniors on
the road safely and increasing alternative transportation
options for them.
