ATA and National Safety Council to Demo Highway Safety Measures
Share the Road Program Visits Kansas City
with Life-saving Highway Safety Tips
Though up to 134,000 Vehicles Travel I-70 Through Kansas City
Daily, Most Automobile Drivers are Never Taught What They can
do to Avoid Initiating an Accident With a Tractor-Trailer
Who: Professional truck drivers, the American Trucking
Associations (ATA), The Safety & Health Council of Western
Missouri and Kansas, the Missouri Highway Patrol, and the
Kansas City Police Department.
What: A demonstration of highway safety measures will be
conducted for local news media, including "ride-alongs" in
tractor-trailers, as part of the national Share the Road
tour visiting Kansas City, MO.
When: Thursday, April 22nd, 10:00 AM
Where: SAIA, Inc., 1534 N. Jackson, Kansas City, MO (see driving
directions below.)
Summary: Professional truck drivers with millions of miles of
accident-free driving, ATA, and The Safety & Health Council
of Western Missouri and Kansas, will demonstrate safe
driving measures key to reducing crashes on Kansas and
Missouri highways. The demonstration will include truck
ride-alongs for news reporters and photographers, and tips
on blind spots, safe-merging techniques, and safe stopping
and following distances.
This highway safety program is critical for Kansas and
Missouri drivers because:
* 35% of all truck-involved highway fatalities occur in a
truck's blind spots*
* Most drivers were never taught how to share the road
safely with trucks
* Watching this demonstration will help reduce accidents
Directions: From Kansas City take I-35 north. Take the Front Street
exit before the river and go east. Go left on N. Jackson.
The SAIA (formerly Clark Bros.) terminal is 1/2 mile on the
left.
