Hydrogain Technologies, Inc., to Establish Nat'l Hydrogen Awareness Campaign
POMPANO BEACH, Fla., Sept. 22, 2004 -- U.S.-based Hydrogain Technologies, Inc., a developer of hydrogen generation and storage technologies for generators, reactors, power plants, fuel cells and hydrogen vehicle refueling systems, announced today that it is establishing a "National Hydrogen Awareness Campaign" geared toward educating America's youth on the importance of transitioning to alternative and renewable energy sources such as hydrogen. Carl Anderson, Hydrogain's Vice President of Corporate Development, stated, "As alternative fuel sources such as hydrogen, wind power, hydropower, and solar energy catch on, the time is ripe to begin an educational effort to help the country's young people understand the importance of making the transition from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources." Anderson cited frustration over America's dependence on foreign oil, concerns about the environment, national security, and worldwide legislation as factors that have brought the alternative energy movement to the fore. "Ironically, scientists continue to debate about the exact timeframe in which the world will deplete its fossil fuel sources," said Anderson. "Yet the fact is it's inevitable, and we must be prepared," he commented. In preparation for this inevitability, the U.S. government has even put in place a hydrogen deployment plan called the Hydrogen Posture Plan, which details how our country will eventually transition to a complete hydrogen economy. In addition, almost every major automobile manufacturer is developing a hydrogen vehicle. General Motors has more than $1 billion invested in its hydrogen program. "Many celebrities are opting for hybrid cars, such as the Toyota Prius, Ford Escape, Honda Insight, and Lexus's forthcoming hybrid SUV, over the high-end luxury brands - even with a 12-month waiting list and prices thousands of dollars over sticker," noted Anderson. It also may come as a surprise to most people that some of the world's largest oil companies such as Exxon, ChevronTexaco, Shell, and British Petroleum (BP) are investing heavily in alternative fuels - hydrogen in particular. Anderson commented, "If these multinational corporations are preparing for the future, so should we." Hydrogain's National Hydrogen Awareness Campaign will initially be deployed through a variety of media, direct mail and advertising channels and eventually through collaborations with elementary schools and educators. It is scheduled to launch January 1, 2005. "A successful transition from a fossil fuel-based economy must begin with our youth," Anderson said in conclusion. "While the government is doing a good job with its own hydrogen education effort, partially through President Bush's $1.2 billion Hydrogen Fuel Initiative, the outcome could be even more tremendous if the public sector took a more proactive role in the education process. We must win the hearts and minds of our children and the coming generation if we are to succeed."
