Sausalito's Hildebrand Scores Second Win of Weekend at Infineon Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. July 18, 2005; Sausalito's J.R. Hildebrand completed a successful weekend at Infineon Raceway on Sunday with his second consecutive feature-race victory in the Pacific F2000 series. Hildebrand, a 17-year-old student at Redwood High School in Larkspur, posted the first professional victory of his career in a 30-minute main event on Friday. He started on the pole on Sunday and, once again, took the checkered flag. The race was part of the Infineon Technologies Grand Prix of Sonoma weekend, presented by Ravenswood Winery. "We had a great weekend. When we got here on Thursday we knew two things: we were quick and we were good on cold tires. We could go out the first half lap and not have to push it. Then I could be consistent and run my own race," said Hildebrand, who piloted the Jim Russell Racing Schools/Spy Optic/PR1 Motorsports Mygale SJO4. Hildebrand has posted eight consecutive podium finishes to start the season in the Pacific F2000 Championship, presented by Mickey Thompson Tires/Cooper Tire. Hildebrand began his career as a student at the Jim Russell Racing School at Infineon Raceway and was the 2003 Jim Russell Graduate Runoffs champion. Sonoma's Dane Cameron, the youngest driver in the field at 16, placed third in Sunday's feature race. He was fourth in Friday's first main event in his Motorsports Mygale, backed by Rick Waddell's Drive4USA program. Cameron is the current points leader at Infineon Raceway in the SCCA Formula Russell Championship, presented by Yokohama.
