WHY:		Despite gas prices averaging $3.20 per gallon, Americans are reluctant to give up the rituals of summer; including road trips to special events like the Indianapolis 500 and vacation destinations such as the National Parks and beaches.

		Thousands of businesses, tourist attractions, small towns and special events depend on a robust summer travel season to stay financially healthy.

		Summer travel can be a make-or-break proposition for much of our economy.

		The Indianapolis 500 is a Memorial Day tradition dating back to 1911. AAA helped officiate the very first race, remained involved for many years as a race referee, and is an official race sponsor.
