THE RACE: The Coca-Cola Shootout is the 12th of 20 races on the 1997
series schedule. Consisting of 60 laps, this event is the only road
course event for the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series in 1997. The
Shootout is also the only event specifically designed to bring all
three of NASCAR's Touring Series' late model competitors together to
compete with and against each other. In last year's inaugural event
the competitors raced on a 1.8 mile configuration, this year the
configuration will equal 2.1 miles in length.
RECORDS:
Track Qual. Record (1.8 mile config.):
Ken Schrader, Fenton, MO, Chevrolet, 67.729 secs., 95.675 mph, 6/8/96
Fastest Avg. Speed (1.8 mile config.):
Toby Porter, Greenville, SC, Chevrolet, 1 hr., 22 mins., 44 secs., 78.324 mph, 6/8/96
1996 REVIEW: Greenville, SC's Toby Porter picked up the inaugural win
in the first ever road course race for the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro
Series. Winston Cup star Kenny Schrader led many laps as did eventual
'96 Series Champion Mike Cope and Series regular Rick Crawford. But
it was Porter who persevered to top Ron Young, Crawford, Cope and Bill
Baird.
