DOVER, DE - On Tuesday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 10, Team 34
Racing performed a tire test for Goodyear at Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports
Complex. McLaughlin was the first driver to run on the newly renovated track.
- After starting the Dover spring race in 22nd position, McLaughlin flat
spotted the right front tire on the #34 Royal Oak Charcoal by slamming on the
brakes to avoid a spin directly ahead of him on lap 64. This resulted in an
unscheduled pit stop, and unfortunately the car never came back to life that
day. McLaughlin went on to finish the race in 23rd position, three laps down.
- On Friday, September 12, McLaughlin attended the grand opening of NASCAR
Thunder in Louisville, K.Y., and signed autographs from 10 am - 12 pm.
- McLaughlin is currently in sixth place in the NASCAR Busch Series point
standings. He trails fifth position by six points.
- The #34 Royal Oak Charcoal Chevrolet that McLaughlin will drive this
weekend is the same car that won the United States Cellular 200 at New
Hampshire International Speedway on May 10, 1997. This particular car also
placed second at Bristol Motor Speedway in April of this year, which he
started from the outside pole position.
