DAVID GREEN NOTES & QUOTES: HANES 250
MARTINSVILLE, VA - David Green is making his final 1997 NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series appearance behind the wheel of the Brewco
Motorsports No. 37 Red Man Golden Blend Chevrolet in the Hanes 250 at
Martinsville Speedway. The Owensboro, Kentucky native drove the Brewco
truck to an eighth place finish at Nazareth Speedway in June, his only
other 1997 start.
"It's been really good working with (team owner) Clarence Brewer, his
Timber Wolf BGN team and Red Man truck team," said Green, driver of
the No. 96 Caterpillar Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. "My
goal at Martinsville is to have a good solid qualifying run and to
take care of the brakes in the race. If I do that, the Red Man truck
will be in contention for a great finish."
Green is no stranger to success on the tricky 0.526-mile Martinsville
Speedway. In 1995, he won a NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series race and in
1994, he scored two second-place finishes in the NASCAR Busch Series.
"I've always enjoyed Martinsville," added Green. "I was disappointed
in 1994 when it was dropped from the Busch Series schedule. As a short
track, it has its own personality. The best thing is its
consistency. You can run 100 laps on a set of tires and the car or
truck still feels great."
Located in Central City, Kentucky, Brewco Motorsports is entering
select NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events in 1997 with David Green,
Mark Green and Scot Walters alternating driving duties.
- When Scot Walters is not driving the No. 37 Red Man Golden Blend
Chevrolet, he normally handles the crew chief responsibilities, but
not at Martinsville. Walters is competing in a NASCAR Slim Jim All
Pro Series race at Winchester (IN) Speedway on September 28 and is not
present.
- David's younger brother Mark, driver of the Brewco Motorsports
No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series, is handling
crew chief duties at Martinsville.
"I usually help with the set-ups on the Red Man truck anyway," said
M. Green. "David and I work very well together, so the choice to have
me fill-in for Scot seemed obvious."
- The Hanes's 250 marks the first time Mark Green has worked as a
crew chief in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
- The Green brothers, David, Mark and Jeff, matched a NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series record when Jeff started the Red Man Golden
Blend Chevrolet in the September 4 Virginia is for Lovers 200 at
Richmond International Raceway. Jeff took over the truck driving
duties at Richmond after David, who was scheduled to drive, was
injured at Bristol Motor Speedway. David drove the Red Man truck at
Nazareth and Mark drove it at Milwaukee and Indianapolis.
Previously, the Wallaces, Rusty, Mike and Kenny, had the distinction
of being the only three brothers to compete in the trucks series.
- Speedway Center convenience stores, with seven locations in southern
Virginia, is an associate sponsor on the No.37 Red Man Golden Blend
Chevrolet for the Hanes's 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
