- The Brewco Motorsports/Timber Wolf Racing team is searching for a new crew
chief for the 1998 season. Keith Strunk, who currently handles the crew chief
responsibilities, will step down next season but will remain with the Central
City, Kentucky based team.
"In order for the Timber Wolf team to continue to grow, we need to hire a crew
chief with Busch Series experience," said Strunk, a Webster City, IA native.
"Each week, the team learns about 20-30 new things about the cars and the
tracks and we finish in the top 15. We feel that if we had someone with
experience at the tracks we race, we would be challenging for top five
finishes and wins."
The decision for the change came directly from Strunk.
"I'm in the racing business to win and we are not winning," continued Strunk.
"I made the suggestion to the team that we should find an experienced crew
chief who both the team and I could learn from."
Strunk cut his racing teeth working with several different race teams
competing on the many dirt tracks in the midwest. In the three years prior to
joining Brewco Motorsports in 1996, Strunk gained valuable experience working
in the American Speed Association (ASA).
"There is no doubt in my mind that I am capable of working as a crew chief in
the Busch Series," said Strunk. "I feel I need to grow and allow the team to
do the same. I am very comfortable with my decision to step down."
- Wilco Convenience Stores is an associate sponsor on the No. 37 Timber Wolf
Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 at Charlotte Motor
Speedway.
- Next weekend the NASCAR Busch Series enjoys time away from the race track,
but Owensboro, Kentucky native Mark Green will spend it at the Talladega
Superspeedway. The driver of the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo will
be a guest of the Caterpillar team which his brother David Green drives for in
the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
During D. Green's recovery from a broken scapula suffered in a crash at
Bristol Motor Speedway on August 23, M. Green tested his brothers No. 96
Chevrolet at Talladega on September 8-9.
"The more time a driver spends at the race track and around the cars, the
better he gets," said M. Green. "After testing the car, I wanted to see how
much the track and car changed. It will give me a clearer idea of what to
expect at Daytona and Talladega next season."
- Brewco Collision Repair Systems announced last week that it has been
acquired by Snap-on Inc., the Kenosha, Wisconsin-based developer, manufacturer
and distributor of tools and equipment solutions. Terms of the transaction
were not disclosed.
"Snap-on was looking for an entry into the collision repair industry and
Brewco was an obvious choice," said Clarence Brewer, Jr., Brewco president and
team owner of Brewco Motorsports Inc. "This is a great opportunity for Brewco
employees, distributors and the community of Central City. It will allow
everyone to expand and grow with the resources Snap-on has available."
Established in 1989, Brewco is a regional supplier of frame straightening
equipment, vehicle measuring systems, paint booths and other collision repair
equipment. Brewco recently introduced a computerized measuring system. Snap-on
plans to expand Brewco's North American distribution while introduce the
product line to non-U.S. markets.
Brewer plans to remain active with Brewco in a limited capacity and plans to
assume a more hands-on role in Brewco Motorsports.
"I will continue working with Brewco, but in a smaller capacity," said Brewer.
"I plan on focusing my efforts towards bringing the Brewco Motorsports race
teams to the next level and will be more involved in its day-to-day
operations."
Brewco Motorsports prepares the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo that
Mark Green drives in the NASCAR Busch Series and the No. 37 Red Man Chevrolet
that Scot Walters, David and Mark Green alternate driving in the NASCAR Truck
Series.
