15 January 1998
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Lucent Technologies today (Jan. 15) announced it will
be an associate sponsor on the Team SABCO #42 BellSouth Chevrolet
driven by Joe Nemechek during the 1998 Winston Cup season.
"We in Lucent look forward to joining BellSouth's outstanding NASCAR
racing effort, and being associated with Team SABCO," said Sherwood
Robins, vice president-BellSouth Region for Lucent Technologies.
"BellSouth is one of Lucent's largest customers, and our two companies
have long partnered in building their state-of-the-industry
telecommunications network," Robins said. "We think it's a natural
extension of our business relationship that Lucent also support
BellSouth in the world of NASCAR and Winston Cup racing."
"Having one of the leading communications and technology companies
worldwide as part of SABCO and the BellSouth team is an exciting
prospect," said Team SABCO owner Felix Sabates.
"A company of Lucent's caliber complements the image and
competitiveness we strive for everyday," Sabates said.
Lucent Technologies, the systems and technology company spun
off from AT&T in 1996, is the:
-- #1 (tied) worldwide market-share leader for
telecommunications equipment.
-- #1 market-share leader in the U.S. for switching systems,
transmission systems, wireless networks and network software
used by major network service providers.
-- #1 market-share leader in the U.S. for business
communications systems.
-- #1 market-share leader in the world for structured cabling
systems.
Robins said Lucent will involve both customers and employees
in its sponsorship via tickets to NASCAR events, corporate
hospitality, driver and show car appearances, race apparel and brand
awareness at selected NASCAR venues during the 1998 season.
