New Hummers Will Be Powered By AutoZone's Duralast Battery
MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 14 -- Tim Vargo, AutoZone
president and COO, today announced an agreement between AutoZone and AM
General Corp. to supply Duralast batteries for all new commercial Hummers.
The agreement is for 1998, 1999 and 2000 models. The Hummer, which uses two
batteries, will be equipped with Duralast batteries beginning in September,
1997.
"The aftermarket's most rugged automotive battery will now be original
equipment on America's most rugged vehicle," said Vargo. "Our Duralast
battery has more than proven its durability. It's had great results on the
brutal Baja SCORE racing circuit and on the tracks at NASCAR and INDY. Plus,
it more than held up to the extreme conditions during Craig Breedlove's world
land speed record attempt on board his Spirit of America."
AutoZone sells auto parts, chemicals and accessories through 1,578 retail
stores in 31 states.
