BMW Reports August Sales; Eight Month Total Highest in Company's History
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 3 -- BMW of North America, Inc.
reported August retail sales of 10,345 automobiles and year-to-date sales of
83,515. BMW sales in the U.S. are 18 percent higher than the same period a
year ago, when BMW reported year-to-date sales of 70,819, representing the
best eight-month total in the company's history.
Sales of the popular BMW 5 Series models continue to be strong, up
38% this month compared to August of 1996.
BMW of North America, Inc. and Land Rover North America, Inc. are members
of the BMW Group. Consolidated U.S. August sales for the two companies were
12,704 units (BMW: 10,345; Land Rover: 2,359), a 4 percent increase over last
year. Consolidated year-to-date sales were 99,597 vehicles (BMW: 83,515; Land
Rover: 16,082), a 17 percent increase over last year.
