Gas Prices Up 12 Cents in Nevada, 7 Cents in Utah
SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 15 -- Retail gas prices in Nevada
leaped 12 cents a gallon in one month, while Utah's pump prices climbed
7 cents a gallon, the AAA affiliate of northern California, Nevada and Utah
reported today.
In Nevada, the average price is $1.44, while Utah's average is
$1.33, according to the survey of more than 350 gas stations Nevada, Utah and
northern California.
Prices at northern California pumps jumped a dime to $1.46. All prices
are for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline.
The rises reflect attempts by West Coast gasoline producers to turn around
a wholesale gas glut felt at the start of summer, which depressed prices,
according to Alan Kovski of "The Oil Daily."
"They must have overdone it a bit," said Kovski. Gas production on the
West Coast was "tightened up," he said, and surplus gasoline was shipped as
far away as Florida and Taiwan.
The Nevada average is a nickel more than the $1.39 average of one year
ago, and 2 cents more than Utah's $1.31 average of one year ago.
The northern California average is a penny lower now than this time last
year.
In Nevada, city averages are: Las Vegas, $1.38; Reno, $1.51.
In Utah, city averages are: Salt Lake City, $1.32; Provo, $1.27.
The AAA affiliate for northern California, Nevada and Utah serves
3.7 million members with an array of automotive, travel and insurance
services.
