Korean Director Nov. 12 at UCI
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 17 -- At a ceremony at the
University of California, Irvine (UCI) Hyundai Motor America today contributed
$15,000 to support an upcoming three-month-long Korean film festival at UCI
starting in January 1998, with a special film "sneak preview" event happening
Nov. 12.
The Korean Film Festival, also sponsored by The Korean Cultural Center in
Los Angeles, begins in January 1998 and lasts through April. Some 20 Korean
films will be screened in a new, 389-seat theater on the UCI campus. Hyundai
Motor America President Mark Juhn said, "Hyundai is pleased to be a sponsor of
UCI's three-month-long Korean Film Festival. The variety of events associated
with the Festival will provide much enjoyment for both people familiar and
unfamiliar with the heritage of Korean cinema."
Activities as part of UCI's Korean Film Festival and Symposium will
include the presentation of scholarly papers, panel discussions and the
screening and discussion of films.
On Nov. 12 at UCI's 100 Humanities Instructional Building at 8:00 p.m.
there will be an introduction to the film festival and the U.S. premier of the
film "The Green Fish/Ch'orok Mulkoki." The film's director, Yi Chang-dong,
will be on hand to discuss his work with the audience.
