Altima Continues to Drive Nissan Division Sales
CARSON, Calif., Jan. 6 -- Continuing its November lead, the
new Altima racked up sales of 11,818 units, up 3.1 percent from November,
according to sales released today from Nissan Division of Nissan Motor
Corporation U.S.A. (NMC).
December sales for Nissan Division totaled 45,053 units, which brought
calendar year 1997 sales to 662,825 units. Since it began selling trucks in
1958, Nissan has sold more than 15,500,000 vehicles in the United States.
The Nissan Maxima reported sales of 8,305 units, and the Nissan Sentra
turned in sales of 5,837 units. Total sedan sales for December were 25,960
units. Division sales for total car were 27,584 units for the month and
420,741 for the calendar year.
Total truck sales for December were 17,469 led by the Nissan Truck and
Frontier. Total pickup sales, including the Frontier, were 7,732 units. The
Nissan Pathfinder saw sales of 6,185 units. Nissan Quest recorded sales of
3,552, up 14.6 percent versus last year.
Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles for December totaled
30,111 units, which represents 66.8 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the
United States. NMC sales for December, including Nissan and Infiniti
Divisions, totaled 50,586 units. Combined calendar year 1997 sales for Nissan
and Infiniti Divisions were 728,377 units, down 3.2 percent versus calendar
year 1996.
