Statement on Caterpillar, UAW Talks by John Calhoun Wells, Director Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service
CHICAGO, Feb. 2 -- The following is a statement by John
Calhoun Wells regarding the talks between Caterpillar Inc. and the United Auto
Workers:
Representatives of Caterpillar Inc. and the United Auto Workers met
jointly with us yesterday for 12 hours. They met separately for several hours
this morning, and, this afternoon, we met jointly again. Our discussions have
been frank, constructive and useful.
The parties need time now to review the remaining issues. Following our
joint session this afternoon, I have recessed the talks subject to call.
I look forward to reconvening these negotiations in the very near future.
