PPG Units `Best of Best' for Auto Coatings & Glass

    DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 13 -- PPG Industries last
night received two Quest for Excellence awards from Automotive Industries (AI)
magazine as "best of the best" among automotive coatings and glass suppliers.
AI is a leading auto manufacturing industry news magazine.
    Readers involved in design, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and
management rated their suppliers for quality, price, delivery, service and
innovation. Scores for what AI terms the automotive equivalent of the Oscar
awards in the motion picture industry were tabulated by the Autofacts division
of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
    PPG rated highest among the three leading paints and coatings suppliers,
with top rankings for price, delivery and service. The company easily
outdistanced two glass competitors on significantly higher rankings for
quality, delivery, service and innovation.
    Quest for Excellence awards in 19 supplier categories were presented
during ceremonies at the Dearborn Ritz Carlton Hotel.
