Land Rover Reports August Sales

    LANHAM, Md., Sept. 1 -- Land Rover North America, Inc. today
reported August sales of 1,714.
    Charles R. Hughes, President, Land Rover North America, Inc., said, "While
overall sales for 1998 are behind the all-time records set in 1997, demand for
Discovery and Range Rover remain strong; Range Rover is, in fact, tracking at
a record pace. We anticipate a good run-out of the 1998 products, as many of
our retailers are offering excellent values as they work to make room for the
'99 models."
