Nissan Reports September Sales
CARSON, Calif., Oct. 1 -- The Nissan Division of Nissan Motor
Corporation U.S.A. (NMC) posted September sales of 45,050 units, down 17.9
percent from the same period last year. Calendar year-to-date sales for
Nissan Division totaled 431,405 units, down 17.4 percent from 1997. Sales of
Nissan's popular Altima and Maxima sedans were especially impacted by low 1998
inventories during the fall sell-down period as production shifted to the
incoming 1999 model year vehicles.
Total truck sales were up 3.1 percent versus last year with 20,199 units
retailed. The Nissan Frontier had sales of 10,255 units, up 9.3 percent
versus last year. Pathfinder sales also showed an increase versus last year,
with 6,645 units retailed, an increase of 2.9 percent over last year. Quest
turned in sales of 3,299 units for September, on the heels of an all-new 1999
Quest, which will arrive in dealer showrooms this fall.
The Nissan Sentra led the sedans in sales for September with 9,185 units.
The Nissan Altima had sales of 6,886 units, down 36.8 percent from last year.
The Maxima reported sales of 6,182 units, down 48.1 percent from last year.
Sales of the 200SX and 240SX totaled 2,372 and 221 units respectively.
Overall, total car sales were down 29.6 percent versus last year.
Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles for September totaled
31,997 units, which represents 71 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the
United States. Total NMC sales for September, including Nissan and Infiniti
Divisions, were 50,876 units. Combined calendar year-to-date sales for Nissan
and Infiniti Divisions were 475,117 units.

States to more than 1,200 dealers.
