as They Cook Up Rose Parade Magic
WHAT: First day of decorating "Family Vacation," the Automobile
Club of Southern California's entry in the 1999 Tournament
of Roses Parade. More than 125 Auto Club members will be on
hand to prepare non-perishable float decoration materials
that sound like recipe ingredients: onion seed, split pea
lentils, crushed rice, spices, farina and seaweed. The
ingredients then will be attached to the float using spray
cans of invisible adhesive.
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE: Rosemont Pavilion (adjacent to the Rose Bowl)
700 Seco St., Pasadena
WHO: Michelle Lofthouse of Phoenix Decorating designed the Auto
Club's sixth entry in the Tournament of Roses. Titled
"Family Vacation," it depicts a turn-of-the century family
setting off on a California road trip in their vintage
automobile.
WHY: The Auto Club is conducting its annual charity drive for the
Children's Miracle Network as part of its Tournament of
Roses participation. Club employees will continue their
fund-raising efforts during all the decorating shifts by
selling $6 cookbooks with recipes from Auto Club employees
and $6 T-shirts depicting the "Family Vacation" float. All
proceeds will benefit CMN, which supports medical treatment
of youngsters at 165 hospitals nationwide, including
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
