ADVISORY/Keeping Seniors Safe On The Road
--Auto Club Co-Sponsoring Forum on Elderly Drivers
WHAT: The rate of fatal and injury collisions involving drivers
over the age of 80 is equaled only by teenagers. How do
Seniors view their driving? What do they need to feel road
safe? How do children view the driving skills of their
elderly parents? Arline Dillman, traffic safety manager of
the Automobile Club of Southern California, will present
the results of focus groups done as part of the Auto
Club's Senior Driving Strategy.
Her presentation is part of a forum on "The Older Adult
and Transportation: The New Millennium" co-sponsored by
the Auto Club. Speakers from the Department of Motor
Vehicles, the Federal Highway Administration, the
California Department of Aging and other groups will
discuss topics including a national perspective on elderly
drivers, highway design and alternative transportation.
WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 22nd.
WHERE: Roybal Institute (enter through Salazar Hall C120),
California State University, Los Angeles
NOTE: Arline Dillman, traffic safety manager for the Auto Club
will speak at 1 p.m. She will also be available
throughout the day for interviews.
