`Bike Night' Rolls into York, Pa.

Thousands Expected for Parade, Live Music in Historic Downtown

    YORK, Pa., Sept. 15 -- Bike Night, held each year in conjunction with 
Harley-Davidson Inc.'s annual open house, is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 24 
in historic downtown York.  It is presented by Budweiser and will be held rain 
or shine.

    The event, which began in 1995, has drawn 8,000 to 10,000 people in
previous years.  It includes a one-hour parade of more than 3,000 motorcycles
rumbling from the York Expo Center into downtown.

    "We roll out the red carpet for Harley riders," quipped York Mayor Charlie
Robertson, "and let them ride all over it."

    Bike Night also will include live music, street performers, food and
merchandise vendors and a live radio broadcast by classic-rock station The
Eagle (FM/92.7).

    Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras and have their pictures
taken next to "The Harley-Davidson Tradition," a historical outdoor mural at
258 W. Market St.  The giant painting features Arthur Davidson, one of the
company's founders, and a young Elvis Presley astride his red-and-white
Harley.

    Harley operates its primary assembly plant -- York County's largest
manufacturing employer -- just outside the city on Route 30.  This year's open
house will be held Sept. 23-25 at the plant and the York Expo Center, on the
city's west side.

    York and Harley will team up again on Dec. 31.  Harley will provide the
first fireworks display in the 14-year history of First Night York.
