ADVISORY/Los Angeles County's Most Dangerous Intersections for Red-Light Crashes
--
Auto Club and National Stop On Red Week Put Spotlight On Leading
Cause of Crashes: Disregarding Traffic Controls
WHAT: The Automobile Club of Southern California will name the five
intersections in Los Angeles County with the highest number
of crashes caused by red-light running in 1998, according to
California Highway Patrol statistics
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: Park and meet at the Parsons Corporation parking lot, Walnut
St. and Corson Ave., Pasadena. Enter off Walnut just east of
Corson and park in the northwest corner of the parking lot.
There are TWO parking lot entrances; use the one that is the
farthest west on Walnut. (Note: This is near one of the
intersections that will be announced.)
WHO: Auto Club representatives will announce the five most
dangerous intersections, release a survey of California
drivers about their red-light running practices and
attitudes, and talk about the traffic safety dangers of
red-light running. Representatives of the city of Pasadena
and the Pasadena Police Department will be available to
discuss their enforcement and traffic engineering efforts to
reduce red-light running in their city.
WHY: Sept. 24 through Oct. 1 marks National Stop on Red Week, an
effort coordinated by the National Highway Transportation
Safety Administration to increase public awareness of the
dangers of red-light running. Disregarding traffic controls
is the leading cause of vehicle crashes, responsible for 22
percent of all collisions.
