Statement from CBS Cable on the NASCAR Rights Announcement
NEW YORK, Nov. 11 CBS Cable today released the following:
"As an original cable home of NASCAR, we are very disappointed with this
decision. However, we feel that CBS and TNN made a very competitive bid on
these rights. TNN has a strong track record in drawing large cable audiences
to NASCAR Winston Cup races, including our record breaking February Rockingham
race which drew the largest cable audience in NASCAR's history,
6.9 million viewers. Despite today's decision, we can be proud of the
contributions we have made to build NASCAR's audience over the past nine
years.
"Throughout 2000, we will carry our full complement of nine Winston Cup
and 11 Busch Grand National races. In the future, we will continue to build
on our other motorsports properties, which are showing tremendous growth
through our efforts. And we are already working on developing new programming
that will attract large audiences as a replacement for the NASCAR races."
