DETROIT, Jan. 10 -- Ford presents tips for Envirodriving at
http://www.fordenvirodrive.com :
* Try one-stop shopping or combining several errands into one trip.
* Get tune-ups regularly -- the car will run more smoothly and
efficiently.
* Keep your tires inflated to the manufacturer's recommended maximum
pressure. Under inflated tires increase rolling resistance and reduce
fuel economy.
* Use a high quality fuel with an octane rating appropriate for your
vehicle and use the lowest octane possible. Check the owner's manual
for the manufacturer's recommendation.
* Drive at posted speed limits. Just the ten-mile per hour difference
between 65 mph and 55 mph improves fuel economy by over 13 percent --
and it may just save a life.
* Don't drive with your windows wide open. That increases aerodynamic
drag on the highway and lowers fuel economy.
* Minimize the use of the air conditioning system. Rather than run it
continuously, use the vent setting as much as possible. And when you
get to your destination, park in the shade to reduce the need for using
the air conditioner.
* Keep your wheels aligned. Driving a vehicle with the front wheels out
of alignment uses more fuel.
