General Motors Donates $1,000 for Each Participant At the March 17th Las Vegas Motor Speedway Event
LAS VEGAS - Several Las Vegas-based news anchors, weathercasters and
sportscasters joined General Motors in a test-driving experience today to raise
money to make children's dreams come true at GM's Auto Show in Motion Media
Challenge. General Motors donated $1,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation on behalf
of each participant in the Media Challenge.
Designed to test both driving skills and other automotive-related
abilities, the Media Challenge consisted of a timed event that included
loading a GMC truck with odd sized items; washing the windows of an Oldsmobile
mini-van; a safety check of a Buick LeSabre's tire pressure, headlights,
directional lights and trunk safety release; a lap of the track in a 2000
Corvette; and the use of GM's OnStar system in a Chevrolet Suburban.
In its third year, General Motors' Auto Show in Motion will continue to
expose consumers to GM products, while raising funds for charity. A $1
donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be made for every GM vehicle
test-driven by invited consumers at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, March 16-19,
as well as three other Auto Show in Motion locations throughout the western
United States. Last year, consumer test-drives at four Auto Show in Motion
events in California supported breast cancer research, raising more than
$65,000 for Concept:Cure.
An invitation-only event, each Auto Show in Motion venue will be housed in
a space of more than one-million square feet, with a total of five test tracks
and nearly 70 vehicles available for consumers to drive. Auto Show in Motion
puts on a dazzling display of new and concept vehicles, and features exhibits
showcasing the latest advances in environmental, technological, safety and
security vehicle features -- all in a fun, festival-like environment.
