The winners were selected by a panel of automotive industry judges from a
list of 15 finalists. The three winners were selected at a determination
ceremony on June 29th, 2000 hosted by Charley's Crab restaurant (248-879-2060)
in Troy, Michigan.
The judges scored the finalists on six attributes: design, engineering,
functionality, practicality, tire use, and presentation. "A great drawing
didn't win you a prize," said Thomas Feeney, President of DataDetroit.com.
"You had to have the whole package as we described in our rules section. The
vehicle had to have some future reach and some kids really did some expansive
thinking."
