AAA Reports Fuel Prices Up Since Fourth of July Holiday
BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 29 The average price of self-serve
regular unleaded gasoline in central and western Washington this Labor Day
weekend has increased 7.5 cents per gallon since Fourth of July weekend to
$1.643. Since Labor Day weekend 1999 prices have risen 20 cents per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is
$1.496 per gallon. The national average has dropped 8.1 cents per gallon since
mid-July, but is 24.1 cents per gallon higher than August 1999.
An estimated 33.7 million Americans are expected to travel 100 miles or
more from home this Labor Day holiday, up nearly 5 percent over last year
despite continued high gas prices.
Popular destinations this Labor Day weekend for Washingtonians include
Vancouver, British Columbia; Las Vegas and Eastern Washington.
