Kia to Replace Manifold Catalytic Converter
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 15 Kia today announced a voluntary
recall of 1998 Sportage sport-utility vehicles to replace the manifold
catalytic converter.
A total of 20,439 Sportages will be recalled after Kia discovered that a
weld on the manifold catalytic converter could crack. If the manifold
catalytic converter cracks, exhaust leakage and noise would occur, and the
vehicle would fail a vehicle inspection or a registration renewal emission
test. This is not a safety-related recall.
Sportage owners are being asked by mail to bring their vehicle to a Kia
dealership so that the manifold catalytic converter can be replaced. The
two-hour procedure will be done at no charge.
