Southern California Gas Prices Drop for Second Consecutive Month
LOS ANGELES--Nov. 14, 2000--Southern California fuel prices continued downward for the second consecutive month, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California Fuel Gauge Report. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is now $1.77, down from $1.80 on Oct. 17. The state average dropped three cents to $1.82.
The highest prices for regular self serve unleaded found in Southern California are in Bishop at $2.05 and the lowest is in Huntington Beach at $1.63 per gallon.
Northern Californians continue to pay more than $2 per gallon for regular fuel in many places. San Francisco drivers pay an average of $2.05 a gallon -- down a penny. The average for Northern California is $1.92 per gallon, down three cents. The average in Las Vegas is $1.77, down a penny from October.
California still has the most expensive gasoline in 48 states. Only Hawaii has a higher state average at $2 per gallon.
Nationally, average fuel prices for regular unleaded gasoline increased three cents in the past month to $1.55 a gallon.
The slight decreases in California can be attributed to lower seasonal demand for gasoline as well as expected decreases in gasoline prices based on recent OPEC production increases. Oil industry analysts say that refiners continue to limit inventories as they expect oil prices to further decrease. However, per barrel oil prices have been climbing toward $35 again, so industry uncertainty continues.
